State-owned port operator Pelindo III has contracted Van Oord to carry out dredging works in the port of Benoa, Bali.
Access to this port needs to be improved to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.
Execution of the work will start soon and is expected to be completed within the year.
The peninsula Benoa, on the southeastern side of Bali, is developing rapidly.
By deepening the existing access channel and port basin, maritime access to the port of Benoa will be improved.
Van Oord will deploy a large cutter suction dredger to dredge a total amount of 5 million m3 of material.
The existing fishing port will be upgraded and the developments will allow more cruise ships to berth.
The local economy and the tourism sector in Bali will benefit from this improved access.
