One million cubic metres of sand were dredged until this moment at the Luanda Bay, in the Angolan capital, to guarantee the implementation of the Urban Reclassification and Reorganisation of the Marginal Zone, ANGOP learnt Sunday from the co-ordinator of the "Bay" Project, Catarina Sierra.
The official stressed that there is an ongoing international contest for land undertakings for the expansion of the "4 de Fevereiro" Avenue, after executing activities based in the conclusion, discussion and approval of the project of licensing the works.
Concerning the maritime work, Catarina Sierra stated that they are working in the area from the start of the Luanda Island (site of greater expansion due to the future construction of the bridge at the "bend" of the Fortress) up to the Information Post, located in front of the Baleizo square.
The future viaduct, she said, is a joint action based on the construction of four embankment platforms along the Luanda Island and will grant a better flow of traffic between the Marginal Avenue, Luanda Island and the "Bispo" Beach area.
According to her, the sand for the construction of the embankment shall be pumped through a raised structure that will cross the Marginal Avenue, in order to prevent the obstruction of traffic along that region of the project.
The maritime undertakings will end with the environmental cleaning of the bay and the conclusion of dredging the channel and the embankment for the expansion of the Marginal area, resorting to a dredging machine of adequate equipment.
The channel resulting from the dredging works will be 2,700 metres long, 50 wide and five metres deep, which will enable navigation around the bay and its progressive decontamination.
